BUAH PUKUL - PADA MATA SAYA

BUAH PUKUL 

Sebut pun dah tak sedap. Pukul-pukul. Negatif. Langsung jauh dari nilai kemelayuan yang penuh adab sopan dan budi bahasa serta kesabaran. 

Namun inilah cinta hati saya kini. 

Selama ini bila disebut silat, langsung terlintas di fikiran kita adalah seni beladiri bangsa Melayu yang merangkumi teknik-teknik serang dan bela dan penuh kesenian dan falsafah. Untuk lebih umum, khalayak melihat silat dengan bunga tari dan limbai tangan, seni kuncian dan bantingan, kombat dan pukulan, di majlis-majlis keramaian orang Melayu. 

Tak dinafikan, dalam silat Melayu tradisi juga ada pukulan, dan kalau kita baca Hikayat Hang Tuah yang banyak berlatarbelakangkan sayembara pertarungan, banyak kaedah permainan hero kita ni adalah elak dan serang, pukul dan tikam, parang dan tendang, dan banyak lagi. Ada diceritakan tentang Tun Tuah bertari pendekar di banyak tempat, paling terkenal di Majapahit, hingga membuahkan kagum pada ramai orang, musuh dan kawan. Namun jarang tertulis Tun Tuah main kuncian. Mungkin sebab kebanyakkan kisah hero kita ni bertarung dengan penyerang yang ramai, macam dengan lanun-lanun dan orang mengamuk, jadi kuncian bukan penekanan. Apa, tak baca Hikayat Hang Tuah? Sulalatus Salatin pun tak baca? Tu duk cium keris, mengaku ketuanan Melayu bagai apa makna? Cheh... 

Berbalik pada buah pukul, yang selalu dikaitkan dengan aliran-aliran bersanad Syed Abdul Rahman Yunan. Buah pukul adalah semata-mata pukul. Tiada bantingan, kuncian, gulingan, lentingan, bunga-bungaan. Yang ada itu adalah semata-mata pukul. Memukul itu memukul, menepis itu juga memukul, membuang juga memukul. Menumbuk itu buah dan pukul itu cara memasukkan buah. 

Sekalipun buah pukul sedikit lari dari norma silat-silat semenanjung Tanah Melayu dan Kepulauan Nusantara, namun falsafah dan pegangannya tetap ada dan sama, walaupun mungkin berbeza istilah dan pegangannya. Tapak tetap adalah yang utama, dan buah-buah adalah terbitan dari kefahaman tapak. Kalau ada yang cakap tapak tak penting, walau dari mana aliran sekalipun, ada sesuatu yang perlu diselidik lagi. Sekalipun berdiri tegak, itu tetap adalah tapak. Pernah juga saya berbual dengan orang yang kononnya membawa Pukulan 7 Hari yang mengatakan tapak tak penting. Tak bertapak pun buah sampai. Saya boleh diam saja. Sama ada kefahaman kami berbeza, atau saya tak faham pun apa yang dia maksudkan. Biarlah, pembawaan masing-masing.

Kalau cerita tentang buah pukul (bersanad Syed Abdul Rahman Yunan), tak boleh lari dari bicara tentang senjata lapan gayang lima. Bagi saya, ini adalah hakikat setiap gerak fizikal mana-mana senibeladiri, walaupun ada yang cuba menafikannya. Faham yang ini, fahamlah gerak kasar yang lain. Tau yang ini, lengkaplah syarat berdiri.

Apa ilmu sekalipun, mestilah berlandaskan petua. Buah pukul juga tak kurang dengan petuanya. Dua gerak tiga ruat, diam-gerak-gayang-ruat, hendaklah mendulu jangan menunggu, jauh dijemput datang disambut dekat direbut balik diturut, pat pat siku lipat, membujur lalu melintang patah, dan banyak lagi. Ada juga petua  yang disorok dalam madah, dan gurulah yang selayaknya menyampaikan kefahaman kepada murid. Contohnya "buah dagang yatim piatu, sambut dua tanti satu" dan "ukuran dan jangka hendaklah dipelajari, barulah diketahui syarat berdiri".

Dan sudah semestinya tujuan buah pukul untuk setiap penuntutnya adalah "Hendak mengena, Tak nak kena".

INDIA MUSLIM DAN PSY

Dua perkara yang saya tak boleh terima minggu ni.

1) Psy Gangnam Style didatangkan khas dalam program politik, untuk tarik orang datang. Gila.

2) India Muslim minta pengiktirafan sebagai "Bumiputra"? Faham ke tak apa maksud bumiputra ni? Adoi.. Ni semua sebab nak benefit politik dan bisnes. Untuk lebih adil, saya minta Cina Muslim turut serta mohon status bumiputra ni. Saya paling tak suka orang bersikap perkauman, tapi kalau orang nak jadi Melayu sebab semata-mata hal politik dan bisnes, lagi macam celaka jadinya.

Ini sama dengan mengiktiraf Si Kitul dan Raja Mendeliar. Haa, hambik. Selalu sangat guna buah perkauman kan. Ni saya bagi sedas.

Nak minta pengiktirafan, mintalah sama-sama duduk di hadapan perjuangan memartabatkan Islam. Itu yang terbaik. Kaum tak bawa ke mana. Parti pun tak bawa ke mana.

Islam je bawa kita ke sana...

KISAH MENYENTUH HATI - CIKGU DAN KECIKGUAN

Ok. Saya mengaku, mata saya berkaca jugak lepas baca cerita ni. Mungkin sebab kisah berkaitan dengan apa yang saya kerjakan sekarang - mendidik (insyaAllah). Sebab selalu sangat dah kita baca kisah cikgu sekelumit dua yang buat tinja dalam dunia pendidikan. Apa kata baca juga secebis dua kisah yang boleh membuatkan kita teringatkan jasa cikgu-cikgi ustaz ustazah  kita yang tak jemu-jemu mengenalkan kita aksara, numerasi, hidup dan kenyataan sehingga kita dari jahil piang sampai ada yang dah PhD sekarang....




Touching hearts.



As she stood in front of her 5th grade class on the very first day of school, she told the children an untruth. 

Like most teachers, she looked at her students and said that she loved them all the same. However, that was

impossible, because there in the front row, slumped in his seat, was a little boy named Teddy Stoddard.

Mrs. Thompson had watched Teddy the year before and noticed that he did not play well with the other children, that his clothes were messy and that he constantly needed a bath. In addition, Teddy could be unpleasant.

It got to the point where Mrs. Thompson would actually take delight in marking his papers with a broad red pen, making bold X's and then putting a big "F" at the top of his papers.

At the school where Mrs. Thompson taught, she was required to review each child's past records and she put Teddy's off until last. However, when she reviewed his file, she was in for a surprise.

Teddy's first grade teacher wrote, "Teddy is a bright child with a ready laugh. He does his work neatly and has good manners... he is a joy to be around.."

His second grade teacher wrote, "Teddy is an excellent student, well liked by his classmates, but he is troubled because his mother has a terminal illness and life at home must be a struggle."

His third grade teacher wrote, "His mother's death has been hard on him. He tries to do his best, but his father doesn't show much interest and his home life will soon affect him if some steps aren't taken."

Teddy's fourth grade teacher wrote, "Teddy is withdrawn and doesn't show much interest in school. He doesn't have many friends and he sometimes sleeps in class."

By now, Mrs. Thompson realized the problem and she was ashamed of herself. She felt even worse when her students brought her Christmas presents, wrapped in beautiful ribbons and bright paper, except for Teddy's. His present was clumsily wrapped in the heavy, brown paper That he got from a grocery bag Mrs. Thompson took pains to open it in the middle of the other presents. Some of the children started to laugh when she found a rhinestone bracelet with some of the stones missing, and a bottle that was one-quarter full of perfume.. But she stifled the children's laughter when she exclaimed how pretty the bracelet was, putting it on, and dabbing some of the perfume on her wrist. Teddy Stoddard stayed after school that day just long enough to say, "Mrs. Thompson, today you smelled just like my Mom used to." After the children left, she cried for at least an hour.

On that very day, she quit teaching reading, writing and arithmetic. Instead, she began to teach children. Mrs. Thompson paid particular attention to Teddy. As she worked with him, his mind seemed to come alive. The more she encouraged him, the faster he responded. By the end of the year, Teddy had become one of the smartest children in the class and, despite her lie that she would love all the children the same, Teddy became one of her "teacher's pets.."

A year later, she found a note under her door, from Teddy, telling* her that she was still the best teacher he ever had in his whole life.

Six years went by before she got another note from Teddy. He then wrote that he had finished high school, third in his class, and she was still the best teacher he ever had in life.

Four years after that, she got another letter, saying that while things had been tough at times, he'd stayed in school, had stuck with it, and would soon graduate from college with the highest of honors. He assured Mrs. Thompson that she was still the best and favorite teacher he had ever had in his whole life.

Then four more years passed and yet another letter came. This time he explained that after he got his bachelor's degree, he decided to go a little further. The letter explained that she was still the best and favorite teacher he ever had. But now his name was a little longer.... The letter was signed, Theodore F. Stoddard, MD.

The story does not end there. You see, there was yet another letter that spring. Teddy said he had met this girl and was going to be married. He explained that his father had died a couple of years ago and he was wondering if Mrs. Thompson might agree to sit at the wedding in the place that was usually reserved for the mother of the groom.

Of course, Mrs. Thompson did. And guess what? She wore that bracelet, the one with several rhinestones missing. Moreover, she made sure she was wearing the perfume that Teddy remembered his mother wearing on their last Christmas together.

They hugged each other, and Dr. Stoddard whispered in Mrs. Thompson's ear, "Thank you Mrs. Thompson for* believing in me. Thank you so much for making me feel important and showing me that I could make a difference."

Mrs. Thompson, with tears in her eyes, whispered back. She said, "Teddy, you have it all wrong. You were the one who taught me that I could make a difference. I didn't know how to teach until I met you."

(For you that don't know, Teddy Stoddard is the Dr. at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines that has the Stoddard Cancer Wing.)

Saya pasti cikgu-cikgi lain pun faham. Kadang-kadang sumbangan kita pada murid-murid, kita tak rasakan besar mana pun. Sekadar sebuah perhatian, sedikit pujian, seikhlas teguran.

Namun yang sedikit itu rupanya adalah baja kepercayaan dan keyakinan pada murid-murid kita. Lagi-lagi murid sekolah rendah, di mana hati mereka ibarat sebidang tanah yang subur. Kita baja dengan perhatian, pujian, teguran dan didikan, akhirnya tak mustahil tumbuh mekar pohon kejayaan dalam kehidupan mereka. 

Dan saya juga mengingatkan diri saya selalu-selalu. Jangan semata-mata meraikan kejayaan murid pada materi dan pencapaian. Selagi didikan kita berhasil melahirkan murid yang beradab berbudi bahasa dan tak mendatangkan jelik pada masyarakat, itulah kejayaan. Kalau murid tu nanti towkey juta-juta sekalipun, tapi amal rasuah, apalah maknanya. Kalau murid tu tadi berstatus profesor tertinggi sekalipun hanya berlandaskan political promotion tanpa hasil kajian, jurnal, tulisan dan buku ilmiah - sekadar buku biografi memuji diri pun, apalah ertinya. Tu ha, Pendeta Za'ba, itu sungguh-sungguh pemikir Melayu yang mendahului zaman kalau kita  baca tulisan allahyarham dalam "Perangai Bergantung Pada Diri Sendiri". Itu pun kalau kita nak baca. Saya ada versi bahasa jawinya yang saya sangat sayangkan. 

Apa pun, kisah ini buat saya bersemangat untuk tunjukkan yang terbaik kepada murid-murid. Itu sebab tadi pulun berlari gila-gila masa Larian 1 Murid 1 Sukan peringkat sekolah, kategori guru (cikgu pun nak sukan jugak, asyik murid je). Dapat nombor 3, adalah modal nak sembang dengan budak-budak atlet sekolah nanti.
